On 15 December 2023, Chememan PLC collaborated with Forest Resources Management Office 5 (Saraburi) organized the ‘Shellac Forest Conservation, or in Thai called ‘Krung Rak Pa.’ The Activity would return the Shellac species to the Ban Tam Nampu Community Forest under the company’s CMAN DMAN’s ‘Plant Forest, Build Kitchen’ project. In the old days, Shellac was one of the native species that was very much prevalent everywhere around Ban Tam Nampu community. Our ancestors made fortune out of those Shellac. However, as time passed, the number of Shellac had gone rapidly down until almost extinction from Ban Tam Nampu. Everyone, including our company, saw the need of bringing back Shellac into the community. This would revitalize the old ecology of the community forest, as well as, provide job opportunities to the communities. One of the flagship food made out of Shellac was ‘Ferment Pork Shellac Curry,’ which was made use the natural colour of the Shellac for the Ferment Pork (instead of using the artificial food colour normally used elsewhere these days). The products was jointly made with Tubkwang Research Centere of Kasetsart University.
